摘要: The discovery of novel forms of RNA challenges the simplistic central dogma that RNA is merely an intermediary between DNA and proteins. Circular RNAs (circRNAs), where the 3’ and 5’ ends are spliced together to form a closed loop, are a newly identified class of ubiquitous RNAs in essentially all eukaryotes and as viral genomes. We find that foreign circRNAs induce an immune response in mammalian cells that can protect against viral infections. We also find that cells distinguish self from nonself circRNAs based on their biogenesis. In the future, we are interested in understanding the molecular basis for eukaryotic and viral circRNA function.
报告人简介：Dr. Chen received her BS from the University of California, Berkeley in Chemical Biology. She obtained her PhD from Harvard University in Chemical Biology, where she discovered and characterized RNA modifications in Dr. David Liu’s lab. Dr. Chen completed her postdoctoral training at Stanford University in the group of Dr. Howard Chang, where she investigated circular RNA immunity. Dr. Chen will be joining the Department of Immunobiology at Yale University School of Medicine in January 2019.
