报告摘要：Seasonal influenza virus causessignificant disease burden every year. Knowing the right vaccine and the number of infections for the following year are important for effective preparing and control of human influenza virus. I developed a naive Bayes model, whichconsiders thechange of physicochemical properties of amino acids fromsequences, to predict antigenic change of seasonal influenza virus. Using this model, Iproposed a platform that can capture the replacement of antigenic clusters, and used it torecommend new vaccine strainsthat representsnew clusters. Vaccines selected based on this platform can protect people in China much better than vaccines selectedbased onstandard pipeline. Furthermore, incorporating evolutionary information from the sequences, as well as the antigenic cluster transition information, into a theoretical epidemiological model, we can predict the absolute incidence of seasonal influenza in United Statesfor the following year. Those studies show how we can study human influenza virus from systems biology perspective, utilizing multidisciplinary knowledges. I will also propose the application of the same strategy in studying human complex diseases from network perspective, hoping for revealing underlying complex networks, studying the mechanisticmechanisms, and designing precise surveillance and control strategies.
