报告人简介:Donald A. Morrison教授是国际著名微生物物理学家,现任美国伊利诺伊大学芝加哥分校(UIC)教授。Donald A. Morrison教授为美国微生物学会、美国科学进步协会、美国科学家联合会、美国遗传学学会等专业组织的成员。Donald A. Morrison教授以其微生物领域的杰出贡献而荣获许多重要奖项,其中包括UIC学术奖、UIC年度研究奖、美国微生物学学会微生物学讲座基金会讲师等荣誉。Mikael Oliveberg教授的科学研究主要集中链球菌和大肠杆菌的遗传学、基因重组的分子生物学、转化机制等领域。Donald A. Morrison教授迄今已发表学术论文100余篇,发表在《Science》、《PLoS genetics》、《PNAS》、《J BACTERIOL》《Molec Microbiol》等期刊上。

报告简介:Transformation inStreptococcus pneumoniaeprovided the earliest evidence that genes consist of DNA. It has since become a powerful tool for direct manipulation of the pneumococcal genome, accelerating study of this widespread devastating human pathogen. Recent advances in its study reveal that uptake of naked DNA in the laboratory represents but one step in a highly orchestrated mechanism by which one cell lyses another, obtaining access to DNA of different ancestry. Operation of this mechanism during mixed infections in natural hosts gives each strain ready access to the large pneumococcal pan-genome, as well as new genes from other related species.
